First Carpathian Strawberries Arrive in Kyiv
The capital has started selling the first strawberries of the season from the Transcarpathian region, priced at 250 UAH per kilogram. For context, imported Greek strawberries had already appeared in Kyiv supermarkets and markets in late March.
Ever-Bearing Strawberry Cultivation
A farm in the village of Parkhimiv, Chernihiv region, is cultivating ever-bearing (remontant) strawberries. This variety occupies nearly half of the plantation's two hectares. Workers harvest 150–200 kg of fresh berries weekly—even into October—showcasing high yields and the ability to supply fruit during the off-season.
As a result, Ukrainian consumers can now enjoy locally grown berries as they start appearing on the capital's market stalls.
The arrival of domestic strawberries in Kyiv signals a gradual recovery of the agricultural sector after winter and offers shoppers a chance to support Ukrainian producers. Moreover, the rising popularity of ever-bearing varieties promises a longer fresh-berry sales season, which could improve product availability and pricing.
- Stronger market competition
- Reduced reliance on imports
