Ukrainian President's Visit to the United Kingdom

On July 27, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy traveled to the United Kingdom for his inaugural meeting with the nation's freshly appointed Prime Minister, Andy Burnham. The encounter took place aboard the Royal Navy's flagship aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth, marking Burnham's first official event since taking office. This high-level discussion centered on Ukraine's defense, including electronic warfare (EW) technologies that Britain has supplied to protect Ukrainian drones, maritime security, and joint defense production initiatives.

Zelenskyy stressed the need for robust capabilities to safeguard Ukrainian lives both in the air and at sea. He also extended an invitation for the British premier to visit Ukraine. During his stay, the president met with Ukrainian servicemen currently in the UK who had taken part in the Sea Breeze exercises. Additionally, the leaders talked about the DPS program—a collaborative effort between Britain and Germany to develop a long-range precision missile with a range of up to 2,000 km, expected to enter service around 2034.

'It is essential for Ukraine to have sufficient capacity to protect lives in the skies and on the seas. We also discussed expanding joint defense manufacturing. I am grateful for Britain's latest decision to provide Ukraine with EW technologies to safeguard our drones. This will certainly be valuable on the battlefield. Together, we can achieve even more in drone technology and other areas,' Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Zelenskyy emphasized that the strongest bilateral ties between Ukraine and the United Kingdom have been forged over the years of full-scale war.

'Our key priorities are air defense, maritime security, and shared defense production—cooperation that strengthens both nations. We appreciate that we can always count on Britain's principled decisions, leadership, and support,' Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Deepening Ukraine-UK Defense Collaboration

President Zelenskyy's visit to Britain highlights the critical role of international support for Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict. Initiatives such as EW technology transfers and the DPS program underscore the growing military partnership between Kyiv and London. This engagement also signals a potential strengthening of strategic ties for the future, particularly in the context of European security. The meeting further demonstrates the UK's continued commitment to backing Ukraine in its fight against aggression.
