Hurricane 'Erin', the first of the Atlantic season 2025, has been downgraded to category 3, reported the National Hurricane Center (NHC). This occurred due to a slight decrease in wind speed of the storm. This was reported by 'Glavkom' citing Reuters.

Currently, the hurricane is located about 530 km east-southeast of Grand Turk Island. Its maximum sustained wind speed is 205 km/h. Earlier, at its peak, the storm was classified as a category 5 hurricane with a maximum wind speed of 240 km/h, then it was downgraded to 4.

According to the NHC, 'Erin' is moving west-northwest at nearly 22 km/h. It is expected that its movement will slow down, and then it will turn north. Forecasts suggest that the hurricane will pass east of the Turks and Caicos Islands and the southeast Bahamas.

The ocean waves caused by 'Erin' will continue to affect the northern Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, as well as Turks and Caicos. These waves will spread to the Bahamas, Bermuda, the east coast of the US, and Atlantic Canada. These are expected to cause life-threatening surf and rip currents.

Experts note that 'Erin' may also create risks of wildfires in case of sparks and the spread of flames by wind. However, forecasts indicate that the hurricane will remain far enough from the US coast to avoid significant impact on the eastern part of the country.

Hurricane 'Erin' has dropped to category 3, but remains a potentially dangerous phenomenon. Its movement and continuing impact on a large area may lead to negative consequences. It is essential to carefully monitor forecasts and recommendations from authorities to ensure the safety of the population and property in affected areas.
