The historic decision of the Supreme Court of Ukraine may radically change the lives of millions of Ukrainian pensioners. For several years, the government and the Pension Fund incorrectly indexed pensions, leading to a significant reduction in payments for many citizens.

The problem arose in 2017 when the approach to pension indexing changed. Unlike a full recalculation for long-time pensioners, new retirees received minimal increases, often just a few dozen hryvnias.

The historic ruling of the Supreme Court in the case of a pensioner who received minimal increases recognized the actions of the Pension Fund as unlawful. This decision is final and sets an important legal precedent for future cases.

The court's decision primarily concerns those pensioners who retired since 2020 and whose rights have been violated. They can apply for pension recalculation and payment of arrears, following the appropriate procedure.

The judicial process may take some time, but this decision gives Ukrainian pensioners the opportunity to fight for their legal rights and the money that belongs to them.
