Memorial Unveiled
A memorial crafted from a concrete slab split in two, salvaged from Hostomel Airport, was unveiled on April 2nd. This date marks the anniversary of the full liberation of the Kyiv region from Russian occupation. The monument stands beneath the Freedom Arch of the Ukrainian People, symbolizing the thwarting of Russia's plans to seize Kyiv and honoring the memory of the nation's heroic resistance. The Battle of Kyiv was a pivotal early phase of the full-scale invasion, where Ukrainian forces successfully defended their capital against overwhelming odds.
The memorial features red arrows depicting the original Russian invasion plan. A steel stele is positioned between the broken concrete pieces, displaying the insignia of the military units that participated in liberating the Kyiv region.
