He Will Always Be 21
Border guard Serhiy Murashkin fell near Bakhmut three years ago
Bakhmut became one of the most grueling battlegrounds of Ukraine's war with Russia. On 2 August 2023, a border guard unit that included Senior Sergeant Serhiy Murashkin was attempting to halt an advancing enemy infantry force in the city. Murashkin exposed himself to enemy fire while covering his unit's positions, and he died in that battle. He was just 21.
Serhiy Murashkin's story and heroism have been entered into the Book of Memory of the Ministry of Internal Affairs system. That book is a permanent tribute to the defenders who gave their lives for Ukraine. Murashkin's name will live on among his comrades and in the hearts of the nation.
His Heroic Final Act
Murashkin's brave last stand reflects the courage and commitment of Ukraine's soldiers as they fight for independence. Remembering such defenders is fundamental to national consciousness; they become symbols of resistance and hope for future generations.
Murashkin's sacrifice is a poignant reminder of the risks faced by border guards in Ukraine, similar to another tragic story of a soldier who lost his life shielding a comrade from a mortar explosion just before his 33rd birthday. Such acts of bravery highlight the unwavering spirit of those who serve on the front lines.
