Remembering Pavlo Burba

A 26-year-old Ukrainian soldier, Pavlo Burba, known by the call sign 'Belarus,' passed away in a hospital on May 29, 2025. He succumbed to severe injuries caused by a Russian cluster aerial bomb that struck the village of Berezove in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Burba served as a mechanic-driver with the 4th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade. This incident highlights the ongoing danger faced by Ukrainian troops from Russian air-dropped munitions.

Born on July 12, 1998, in the village of Petrushyn in Chernihiv Oblast, Burba graduated from the Chernihiv Professional Construction Lyceum, where he qualified as a mechanic-welder. Before the full-scale invasion, he worked as a tractor operator at an agricultural enterprise. Following the outbreak of war, he enlisted in the Armed Forces of Ukraine to continue serving his country.

Heroism and Legacy

For his bravery and dedication, Pavlo Burba was awarded the Golden Cross decoration and the Order for Courage, Third Class (posthumously). He was laid to rest in his home village of Malynivka, where his mother and two sisters survive him. One of his sisters, Maryna Naumenko, launched a petition on the president's official website to honor her brother's memory.

Every day at 9 a.m., Ukrainians observe a moment of silence for all those whose lives have been taken by the Russian-Ukrainian war. Today, we remember Pavlo Burba, who at just 26 years old leaves behind a lasting legacy.

Maryna Naumenko, Pavlo's sister: 'My brother was cheerful, always smiling. He loved life and had grand plans. It is incredibly painful to lose such a flower of our nation. Eternal memory to my brother, our heavenly Angel.'

The tragedy in Berezove has dealt a heavy blow to his family and the broader community. For his loved ones, Pavlo will forever remain a bright and smiling person. Glavcom joins in a moment of silence to honor the memory of fallen heroes, including Pavlo Burba.

The death of Pavlo Burba underscores the severe toll the war continues to exact on Ukrainian families and society as a whole. The loss of a young soldier who gave his life for his country evokes profound sorrow and reinforces the critical need to support military personnel and their families. His memory, along with that of other heroes who have perished in the conflict, will endure in the hearts of Ukrainians as they continue to fight for peace and independence.

The loss of Pavlo Burba is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by soldiers in the ongoing conflict. Similar to the story of Master Sergeant Tarik, who bravely defended Donetsk Airport, Burba's heroism in the face of danger exemplifies the courage shown by many Ukrainian servicemen.
