No Official Evidence for Iran’s Ballistic Attack on Ukraine, Official Says
Andriy Kovalenko, who leads Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, stated that there is currently no official confirmation that Iran is preparing a ballistic missile strike against Ukraine. His comment follows unverified reports on Telegram channels claiming that Iran might launch an attack within the next 48 hours using three ballistic missiles. These tensions come amid a series of recent military incidents between the two countries.
On July 25, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused Ukraine of attacking an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea, an incident that Iran says killed a sailor. Speaking with the EU’s top diplomat and Russia’s foreign minister, Araghchi called the attack a “clear violation of the UN Charter” orchestrated by Israel to drag Europe into the war, and vowed that it would not go unanswered.
Earlier that same night, Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) and its Defense Forces launched a wave of long-range strikes on Russian military, logistics, and fuel facilities. The strikes targeted locations from Rostov-on-Don to Tyumen and Kirov, as well as the Caspian Sea area. According to Ukrainian reports, the strikes hit two Iranian cargo vessels—Port Olya 2 and Begey—which were allegedly under sanctions and used to transport military supplies between Iran and Russia.
Kovalenko emphasized that
