In Ukraine, starting from January 2026, salaries for medical workers have increased significantly, and they will receive the increased payments as early as February. The government has abandoned outdated calculations based on the coefficients of the Unified Tariff Scale and introduced a fixed minimum wage for full-time work. This is reported by Rayon.Medicine.

According to the new rules, the state guarantees a minimum income level for doctors, middle and junior medical staff. The changes affect almost half a million healthcare workers across the country.

Salary Increases for Medical Staff in 2026

As of January 1, 2026, the minimum salaries for one position are set at the following levels:

  • doctors — 35,000 UAH gross, or at least 26,950 UAH after taxes

  • middle medical staff (nurses, paramedics) — 25,000 UAH, or 19,250 UAH 'net'

  • junior medical staff — from 15,000 UAH, which is approximately 11,500 UAH after taxes.

For medical workers in potential combat zones, the minimum payments are even higher. Doctors are guaranteed at least 40,000 UAH, while nurses are guaranteed no less than 30,000 UAH.

Doctor and Nurse Salaries: What Increased the Payments

Funding for increased salaries has been made possible by revising the tariffs for medical services that the state pays through the National Health Service of Ukraine. The principle 'money follows the patient' has allowed increasing financial resources not only for large hospitals but also for district medical institutions.

Currently, there are about 100 thousand doctors, over 270 thousand nurses and paramedics, and up to 130 thousand junior medical staff working in Ukraine. According to industry sources, the salary growth among medical workers has been the largest among budget professions.
