Ukraine's 2026 Child Travel Concessions: Updated Rules by Age Group

Нове правило подорожей для дітей в Україні у 2026 році: зміни за віковими категоріями.

Child Travel Concessions in Ukraine for 2026

Ukraine will continue to offer discounted public transport fares for children in 2026, with specific rules varying by the child's age, route type, and whether they are accompanied. These policies are part of the country's broader social support system. According to the 'On Automobile Transport' law, children under the age of six will continue to travel for free on all forms of public transport. It is important to note that a single adult is entitled to accompany only one child under six free of charge.

For schoolchildren over six in the capital, free travel is available during the academic year, which runs until June 30. However, children under 14 are not permitted to travel between cities without adult supervision. The conditions for free travel for children under six stipulate that the child must travel without occupying a separate seat, and there are specific limitations for large families or groups.

International and Intercity Travel

Specific requirements apply for international and intercity journeys. A child's birth certificate is a mandatory document for travel. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult, and on long-distance routes, children over six typically require a paid ticket. These updated regulations are designed to enhance the safety and comfort of children traveling within Ukraine.

Maintaining these travel benefits is significant for Ukrainian families, as it facilitates access to public transport, particularly for those on a limited budget. The rules concerning child supervision underscore the critical importance of travel safety, a priority in the current context. In line with the new norms, parents are advised to pay close attention to the specific travel conditions when planning journeys with their children.
