Ongoing Assistance for Internally Displaced Individuals

Following an evacuation, multidisciplinary teams in transit centers provide ongoing support to internally displaced persons (IDPs), helping them access social, medical, psychological, and legal services. These teams also arrange further transportation to healthcare facilities, temporary housing, or social welfare institutions.

Once evacuated, many people are left alone to deal with countless urgent concerns: where to live, how to restore lost documents, or how to apply for financial aid. It is precisely in these moments that multidisciplinary teams step in. For instance, Yuriy, who began using a wheelchair after suffering a stroke, received assistance from such a team. They helped him recover his documents, obtain his IDP certificate, and transfer his pension payments to a bank account.

“After an evacuation, people often need much more than just help with paperwork or finding a place to stay. The most important thing is to restore their sense that they are not facing their struggles alone. Once a person begins to trust, we can work together to plan their path to recovery,” said social worker Tetiana Kyianytsia.

This comprehensive form of support helps people adapt more quickly, receive the assistance they need, and begin a new chapter in their lives.

The Critical Role of Humanitarian Aid

This process of accompanying internally displaced persons is vital given the current humanitarian situation in the country. Multidisciplinary teams provide not only practical help but also emotional support, which is essential for restoring people’s psychological well-being. Thanks to this integrated approach, IDPs can integrate more smoothly into new environments and rebuild their lives after traumatic experiences. This underscores the need for continued support from both the state and humanitarian organizations to uphold the rights and meet the needs of these individuals.
