The process of directing military personnel to combat brigades has been simplified

The General Staff stated that soldiers who have returned to the reserve after unauthorized abandonment of their unit will be sent to the necessary combat brigades. This initiative primarily concerns airborne assault units.

A simpler mechanism for sending a recommendation letter to a serviceman of a future military unit has been introduced. This allows for a quicker response from the commander of the military unit.

Improvements in the process of assigning military personnel to new positions help to avoid unnecessary bureaucratic procedures and direct documents straight to the General Staff.

Inappropriateness of unauthorized abandonment of the unit

From now on, recommendation letters are completely electronic and cannot be used for transferring soldiers to other positions. This prevents their use for transferring to less demanding military units. The General Staff emphasized the need to adhere to legal procedures in this matter.

“These steps aim to simplify the assignment of military personnel to new positions, reduce the possibility of manipulations, and make the process more transparent. The changes do not affect the terms of return to service after unauthorized abandonment of the unit.”

Over the past three years, nearly 290 thousand criminal cases have been opened for unauthorized abandonment of the unit. This has become the biggest problem in the Ukrainian army, which people's deputy Ihor Lutsenko considers to be the most pressing, pointing to three main motives for such behavior among military personnel.

The improvement of the process of directing military personnel to combat brigades and avoiding abuses regarding unauthorized abandonment of the unit demonstrates the desire to maintain a high standard of discipline and effectiveness in the Ukrainian army.
