Former Deputy Minister of Energy detained for bribery: details of the case

Former Deputy Minister of Energy and his accomplice accused of receiving a bribe


The prosecutor of the SAP has sent an indictment to the court against the former Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine and his accomplice. They are accused of having received an undue benefit of 300,000 US dollars for permission to export mining equipment from the front-line zone.


During the preliminary investigation, it was established that the Deputy Minister, together with the head of one of the state coal enterprises and another person, bribed the advisor of the head of another coal enterprise in order to obtain 500,000 US dollars for the transfer of equipment for coal mining.


“Basically, it was about the evacuation of mining equipment from the combat zone and its use in mines in the western region.”

According to the agreement, the money was supposed to be transferred in parts during meetings. The criminals were detained after receiving the third part of the bribe, the total amount being 300,000 US dollars.



Charges and further actions


The actions of the Deputy Minister have been classified as a crime under part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, while his accomplice is charged under part 5 of Article 27, part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Two accomplices have already been issued guilty verdicts.


In accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent until proven guilty in a legal manner by the court. The consideration of this case in court indicates the seriousness of the charges and the need to combat corruption.



The Ukrainian court, together with the objective conduct of the case, can resolve the issue of these criminal accusations and impose a fair punishment on the guilty parties.
