In Kharkiv, more than 30 ruined high-rise buildings will be demolished: what will be there instead

The mayor of Kharkiv, Ihor Terekhov, announced plans to demolish more than 30 high-rise residential buildings that were destroyed by the Russian army. New residential complexes are planned to be built in their place. This step is the first phase of a radical reconstruction of the most affected areas after the war.



'As of now, more than 30 high-rise residential buildings destroyed by the Russian army are planned to be demolished in Kharkiv,' Terekhov stated.


Overall, according to city council estimates, over 4500 residential buildings have been damaged or destroyed in the city since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. The demolition of these buildings is just the beginning of a large-scale recovery process.



Affected areas and number of damaged buildings


Most of the destruction of multi-apartment housing was recorded in the Kyiv and Saltivka districts. In the Saltivka district, 787 buildings have been damaged, and in the Kyiv district - 693. The most affected area is the Pivnichna Saltivka, located at the borders of these districts. In the Shevchenkivskyi district, 486 buildings have been damaged, and in the Industrial district - 366.



The Slobidskyi district is also among the most affected. According to the mayor, 225 multi-apartment buildings have been damaged in this district.



Kharkiv is preparing for the restoration of the housing stock that was destroyed during the war. The city's mayor plans to demolish more than 30 ruined buildings and build new residential complexes in their place. The affected areas are to be rebuilt, and their residents will be provided with new living conditions.
