Farewell to Green Grey Leader: Emotional Memories from Friends and Colleagues


A farewell ceremony was held in Kyiv for Andriy Diesel Yatsenko, the leader of the band Green Grey. Many of his friends, colleagues, and stars of the show business came to say goodbye to the musician. One of those stars was Eurovision 2016 winner Jamala, who shared her memories of performing with Diesel.


“He was very kind to me, I called him Uncle Diesel. Because he seemed gigantic and grand. We joked and jammed a lot together, he respected me in a way. It's a pity, they could still play and play,” said Jamala.

Another guest at the ceremony was TV presenter Anatoliy Anatolich with his wife Yulya. Anatolich shared his impressions of meeting the band Green Grey and their music.


“Green Grey always maintained a high standard of quality in Ukrainian music. They were true rock musicians, living brightly because they wanted to. They were controversial as they should be. They evoked a wide range of emotions. Their music is still relevant today,” said Vlad Darwin.

Unforgettable for Their Creativity and Music


Andriy Diesel Yatsenko died at the age of 55 from heart failure. He was not only the leader of the band Green Grey but also a renowned rock guitarist, responsible for the arrangements and sound of the performances. The musician left an indelible mark on the Ukrainian music scene, thanks to hits like “Under the Rain,” “Mazafaka,” “Emigrant.”


After the farewell ceremony, Andriy Yatsenko was cremated at Baikove Cemetery. The band Green Grey, founded in Kyiv in 1993, is known for its unique sound, which remains relevant today. Thank you, Andriy, for your music and your contribution to the development of Ukrainian rock.
