Weather Forecast for Ukraine in the Coming Days
Natalia Ptukha, a forecaster at the Ukrhydrometcenter, has provided the weather outlook for Ukraine. The country will experience dry, sunny conditions with overnight frosts from March 21 to 23. A sharp warming trend will then begin on March 24, with temperatures reaching as high as +20 degrees Celsius (68°F) by March 26.
According to the forecast, a high-pressure system will dominate Ukraine's weather from March 21 to 23, ruling out significant precipitation. However, light rain is possible in the south and west, with localized wet snow in the Carpathian highlands. A northeasterly wind of 7-12 meters per second is expected. Daytime temperatures over the weekend will range from +8 to +14 degrees Celsius, with the highest readings in the southern regions and Zakarpattia.
Anticipated Warming Trend
The warming trend will commence on March 24. In the southern part of the country, temperatures will climb to +11...+17 degrees Celsius. From March 26, overnight lows will rise to +1...+8 degrees, while daytime highs are expected to reach +12 to +18 degrees, locally up to +20 degrees in the south. In the Carpathians on March 26, daytime temperatures will range from +4 to +10 degrees.
For Kyiv, starting March 24, forecasters predict overnight lows of +2 to +4 degrees and daytime highs of +11 to +13 degrees. No precipitation is expected in Kyiv in the coming days, with predominantly sunny weather holding firm.
“If we have clear skies at night, then, of course, there can be a slight frost in some places. If there are no clouds, the heat accumulated during the day is released more intensely.”
Natalia Ptukha
She added that “in Kyiv over the weekend and on Monday, it could still be around 0 or slightly below at night because clear skies are expected, and the air mass is still fresh.”
Such significant temperature swings are typical for the transitional spring period in Eastern Europe. The shift from cold to warm weather in Ukraine can impact agriculture, as air temperature is crucial for plant growth and development. Additionally, these fluctuations may affect people's health, with some experiencing discomfort due to the rapid changes. The shift is also expected to lead to increased public activity and a rise in various outdoor pursuits due to the warmer temperatures.
As the weather in Ukraine transitions from late March frosts to a notable warming, it's essential to understand the broader context of these fluctuations. Recently, on March 16, the country experienced dry conditions with temperatures nearing 18°C in the west. This shift sets the stage for the upcoming warm spell, making it crucial for residents to stay informed about the changing weather patterns.
