Hourly Electricity Blackouts in Ukraine
Starting January 23, 2026, Ukraine will implement scheduled hourly electricity blackouts and power capacity restrictions for industrial consumers. This measure is a direct consequence of Russian missile and drone attacks on the nation's energy infrastructure, which have caused severe damage to the power grid. These attacks are part of a broader campaign targeting Ukraine's civilian infrastructure.
The new restrictions will be in effect across all regions of Ukraine. DTEK CEO Maksym Tymchenko stated that the upcoming winter will be the most difficult for Ukrainians since the start of the full-scale invasion. The energy system is currently characterized by a lack of backup power reserves, insufficient time for repairs, and relentless daily Russian strikes on energy facilities.

Ukrenergo, the national energy company, urges citizens to be vigilant and to use electricity sparingly during the hours it is scheduled to be available.
