Train Routes in Sumy Region Temporarily Adjusted with Bus Transfers to Konotop Amid Russian Attacks

У зв'язку з російськими обстрілами, маршрути потягів у Сумській області тимчасово змінено, і пасажири будуть пересаджені на автобуси до Конотопа.

Temporary Train Schedule Adjustments in Sumy Region

Due to intensified Russian strikes targeting railway infrastructure in the Sumy region, trains will temporarily operate only up to Konotop station. To maintain passenger access to Sumy, coordinated bus transfers will cover the remaining distance. This multimodal travel system combines train and bus segments to ensure continued connectivity.

The decision to modify train schedules comes as a direct response to escalating attacks on critical rail lines. Given the volatile security environment, passenger safety remains the top priority. The Sumy Regional Military Administration and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine are jointly overseeing the organization of these bus transfers. Once the threat level decreases, full train routes to and from Sumy will be restored.

Recent Incidents and Passenger Safety Measures

On September 8, Russian drones targeted a Kyiv-Sumy passenger train approaching Sumy, forcing an emergency stop and evacuation of passengers and railway staff; thankfully, no injuries were reported. Earlier, on August 8, a hostile drone struck the locomotive of the Sumy-Kyiv train, also resulting in an evacuation without casualties.

In response to worsening security conditions across Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions, "Ukrzaliznytsia" has rerouted trains and implemented bus transfers to maintain service.

"We recognize that these adjustments may inconvenience travelers who planned their journeys in advance, but safety is our utmost concern. The Sumy Regional Military Administration and the State Emergency Service have coordinated bus transfers between Sumy and Konotop to keep the connection operational using a combined train and bus approach," a spokesperson for Ukrzaliznytsia stated.

Passengers are advised to remain flexible and prepared for changes or mixed transportation modes as the security situation evolves.

These schedule changes highlight the serious security challenges faced in the Sumy region amid ongoing Russian aggression targeting vital transport infrastructure. The implementation of bus transfers demonstrates Ukrainian authorities' commitment to safeguarding travelers despite difficult circumstances. Staying informed about potential alterations in travel plans is crucial for all passengers navigating this dynamic environment.

As the situation remains precarious, the implications of recent drone strikes on passenger trains highlight the urgent need for safety measures. For further insight into how these attacks have impacted rail travel, including the incidents involving the Kyiv-Sumy train, read our detailed report.
