French rugby player banned for 12 matches for biting opponent at World Cup

In the playoff match of the women's Rugby World Cup in England, French team player Axelle Berthemier was banned for unsportsmanlike conduct after biting an Irish player during the game. The French player was fined and faced a 12-match ban, losing the opportunity to participate in the 2025 World Cup.

Berthemier apologized to her opponent and the Irish team for her inappropriate behavior, as well as to her teammates for losing the chance to participate in the upcoming matches of the tournament.
