Maspex Closes Deal for ‘Carpathian Mineral Waters’
The Polish conglomerate Maspex has finalized the acquisition of an 80% stake in the Ukrainian company ‘Carpathian Mineral Waters,’ the producer behind well-known brands such as ‘Carpathian Spring,’ ‘Sokovynok’ juices, and Gonzo snacks. Founder Serhiy Ustenko retains a 20% share. Preliminary estimates place the deal’s value between $30 million and $50 million.
New Owner’s Strategy and Public Reaction
Maspex, a major food and beverage manufacturer operating in over 50 countries and owning brands like Tymbark, Kubuś, and Lubella, plans to expand production in Ukraine and use the local water for exports to European markets.
The deal has sparked a wide range of reactions online. Some social media users expressed skepticism, with one commenter, tetiana.makara, writing: “So much for UPA and Bandera—doesn’t that get in the way?” Others, like if_valeria.nka_else, remarked: “Poland’s own water tastes like dishwater, so they decided to buy some good-tasting water.” Concerns were also raised by Khrystyna, who said: “This is a disaster for our artesian water reserves. They’ll drain it all.” Meanwhile, Oleksandr added: “They should have rebranded it ‘Volynska’ before the sale.”
This transaction marks a significant step for Ukraine’s mineral water market. Growing foreign investor interest highlights the increasing appeal of Ukrainian enterprises, especially those tied to natural resources. Expanded production and exports of Ukrainian water to Europe could boost the economy by creating new jobs and attracting further investment.
