Hero Oleksandr Hrianyk: the story of a warrior who voluntarily flew into besieged Mariupol

Oleksandr Hrianyk was born on January 8, 1994, in Kyiv. He studied at a capital school and graduated from the Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman. His father raised his son to be a great patriot of Ukraine, which influenced Oleksandr's favorite hobby - football. Sashko attended matches of Kyiv 'Dynamo' and supported the team with all his might.


Oleksandr Hrianyk joined the Army of Ukrainian Patriots in 2016 and served in the 'Azov' battalion. A few years after his demobilization, he returned to the front, repelling the occupiers from Kyiv and participating in the defense of Mariupol during the siege at the 'Azovstal' plant to support his brothers in the fight. Oleksandr died on May 8, 2022, during the defense of the city.


Oleksandr's parents learned about his death from friends and volunteers who helped search for the hero's body. The farewell to Oleksandr took place at the Mykhailivsky Golden-Domed Cathedral, and his ashes were buried at the Lukianivske Cemetery in Kyiv.



Every day at 9 am, Ukrainians honor the memory of all whose lives have been taken by the Russo-Ukrainian war. Today, we remember Oleksandr Hrianyk.
