Captain Oleksandr Podvyshennyi died a year ago: the story of a poet and a warrior

Every day at 9 a.m. Ukrainians honor the memory of all who died in the Russian-Ukrainian war. Today we remember Oleksandr Podvyshennyi.


30-year-old Captain Oleksandr Podvyshennyi died on May 30, 2024, during a combat mission in the Kherson region. This information was provided by the Rivne City Council.


Oleksandr Podvyshennyi was born on July 14, 1993, in Rivne, studied at a local school and lyceum, and then entered the Ostroh Academy, where he studied literary creativity.


While studying in graduate school, he researched the work of Ulas Samchuk, was engaged in journalism, and wrote for various publications.

A participant in the Revolution of Dignity and the anti-terrorist operation, Oleksandr was known for his devotion to Ukraine and active civic engagement. He served in the army, participated in the defense of the country, and commanded a company.


The tragic death of Oleksandr occurred on May 30, 2024, and the farewell took place on December 13, 2025, at Independence Square in Rivne. He was buried at the Alley of Heroes of the 'Nove' cemetery in Rivne. He was survived by his mother, wife, and brother.


Today we honor the memory of Oleksandr Podvyshennyi and all Ukrainians who gave their lives for a free and independent state.
