Colonel Oleg Bovkun has been appointed as the new commander of the 112th Separate Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, replacing the previous leadership. Before this role, he served as deputy commander of the 113th Separate Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces and has held various command positions within the 10th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade "Edelweiss." Oleg Bovkun’s Military Career and Expertise
Starting his military career in 2010, Bovkun has steadily advanced through the ranks. Since 2025, he has been the deputy commander of the 113th Separate Brigade within the Territorial Defense Forces. His qualifications are further strengthened by his completion of the Joint Staff Officers’ course at the National Defense University of Ukraine, underscoring his preparedness for higher leadership responsibilities.
The official introduction of Colonel Bovkun as the 112th Brigade commander took place with Colonel Dmytro Synyavskyi, head of the Northern Regional Directorate of the Territorial Defense Forces, in attendance. In his remarks, Synyavskyi emphasized the critical role played by younger officers who have acquired both formal education and valuable combat experience amid ongoing hostilities.
“Since 2014, the war has shaped a new generation of Ukrainian officers. Their experience reflects the demands of modern warfare, constantly evolving the approaches to troop management, strategic planning, and decision-making,” Colonel Dmytro Synyavskyi stated.
Concluding the ceremony, Colonel Synyavskyi extended his best wishes to Bovkun for success, sound judgment, and resilience in leading the 112th Brigade and fulfilling its mission.
“We wish Oleg Petrovych success in his new role, balanced decisions, and strength to accomplish the tasks ahead,” he affirmed.
Colonel Bovkun’s appointment highlights the ongoing renewal within Ukraine’s Armed Forces leadership during a protracted conflict. In a war that continues to test the nation’s defenses, it is vital that commanders possess both theoretical knowledge and firsthand combat experience. The expertise gained throughout years of conflict will be instrumental as Bovkun directs efforts to safeguard Ukraine’s security and territorial integrity.
