Poland is temporarily restricting the use of part of its airspace in the east of the country near the Ukrainian border. This decision will be in effect for nearly three months and is related to the security situation in the border region. This is reported by Polska Agencja Powietrznej.

The restrictions are being implemented at the request of the military command. They will come into effect on March 10, 2026, and will last until June 9. The reason is repeated cases of border crossings by unidentified drones, which have been recorded in the region.

Part of Poland's airspace near Ukraine will be closed

The ban will apply to flights at altitudes up to three kilometers above ground. The restrictions will affect all types of aircraft, including drones.

At the same time, passenger planes that fly at significantly higher altitudes will still be able to use the airspace without changes.

During the period of restrictions, flights will only be allowed in certain cases:

  • military aircraft

  • aircraft taking off or landing at Depultiche Krulevskie Airport (EPCD)

  • flights approved by the Air Operations Center

Flight restrictions in Poland due to drones

Additional requirements will apply to civil piloted aircraft. During daylight hours, they will only be able to operate under several conditions:

  • a submitted and approved flight plan

  • a functioning transponder

  • constant communication with air traffic control services

Certain exceptions are provided for military aviation and civilian drones, provided they do not violate the air defense recognition zones of neighboring countries - Ukraine and Belarus.

In emergencies, flights may also be allowed for medical aviation. This applies to rescue operations, disaster response, environmental threats, or other emergencies where there is a threat to human or animal life.

It should be noted that starting from March 5, 2026, new rules for the stay of Ukrainian citizens will come into effect in Poland.
