Poland checks municipal housing: what inspectors are looking for in apartments
In Ukraine, inspections are being conducted by state inspectors in Poland to monitor the use of municipal housing. These inspections are not police-related and concern only communal apartments. Inspections are conducted by employees of Property Management Companies (ZGN) as part of a program known as 'Know Your Tenant' (Poznaj Swojego Najemcę).
In 2024, inspectors have already visited 3700 apartments in Warsaw, and in 2025, it is planned to check around 3000 apartments. It is important to note that these inspections will become mandatory at least once every 5 years. All contracts concluded before 2019 will be under scrutiny. The main goal of the inspections is to determine the compliance of the number of residents in the apartments with the data specified in the subsidy documents. If it is found that fewer people live in the apartment than provided for, payments may be canceled.
Municipal housing and its control
Municipal housing in Poland, known as Mieszkania komunalne, is owned by the commune and is rented to low-income citizens. These measures aim to ensure the effective use of municipal resources and prevent abuses in the subsidy system.
This initiative demonstrates the efforts of Polish authorities to optimize the use of municipal housing and prevent financial abuses. Inspections can significantly impact the living conditions of low-income citizens, as the cancellation of subsidies for non-compliance can lead to social consequences. The importance of such measures underscores the need to adhere to the rules in the social housing provision system.
