Poland plans to build a new highway from the border to Lviv and introduce a toll for passage. The funds raised will go to the Polish budget as a mechanism for repaying the loan provided to Ukraine. This was reported by InPoland.
Paid road to Lviv: what is known about the project
It concerns the construction of approximately an 80-kilometer section of highway based on the M10 road, which connects the Korczowa-Krakowiec border point with Lviv.
The road already has a high-speed continuation on the Polish side — the A4 highway, which ends at the border. The new project envisions the creation of a full-fledged highway on Ukrainian territory.
The financing will be provided by the Polish government, and the construction is planned to be carried out under Polish law.
How toll collection will work
After the road is launched, travel will become paid for all types of transport.
Those who will pay include:
-
drivers of passenger cars
-
transport carriers of freight vehicles.
The collected funds will go to the budget of Poland. Thus, it is planned to gradually repay the loan that the country will provide to Ukraine for the implementation of the project.
Restoration of Ukraine: when can work begin
The M10 highway project will be part of a broader deal between Ukraine and Poland for post-war restoration.
The signing of the document is expected at the "Restoration of Ukraine" conference on June 25-26. Among the initiatives is the creation of logistics infrastructure to enhance economic ties.
The design of the road may begin even during the war, while construction will start after its end.
In addition to the road, the list of potential joint projects includes:
-
a railway line with European standards
-
a freight terminal in central Ukraine
-
a Polish port on the Black Sea.
The idea of constructing this highway has been promoted by Poland since the preparations for Euro 2012.
For Ukraine, this means the opportunity for a faster connection to the EU and development of logistics. At the same time, the use of the road will be paid, and part of the economic effect of the project will go to the Polish budget.
