Currently, the number of Ukrainians using subsidized housing in Poland has noticeably decreased. Over the past one and a half years, the Polish government has spent over a billion zlotys on this program; however, since November of last year, humanitarian benefits for Ukrainian refugees living in Poland for more than 1 year have been canceled. Now Ukrainians must pay for accommodation in collective housing centers, as the country cannot accept an unlimited number of refugees for a long period.
This decision is explained by the fact that Poland has reached the limits of its capacity to integrate refugees. Only a few Ukrainians have the opportunity to obtain Polish citizenship, while there are approximately 1.5 million Ukrainian citizens in the country.
