Negotiations between Poland and Ukraine
Poland is negotiating with Ukraine regarding the transfer of MiG-29 aircraft, which is related to the depletion of their operational resources and the lack of modernization. The General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces confirmed these negotiations, stating:
“We inform you that talks are ongoing with the Ukrainian side regarding the transfer of MIG-29 aircraft”.
The final decision on the transfer of the aircraft has not yet been made. Poland plans to replace the withdrawn MiG-29s with F-16 and FA-50 aircraft, which indicates intentions to modernize its military forces. In February 2024, Poland also allocated a loan for joint weapons production with Ukraine, emphasizing the growing military cooperation between the countries.
Cooperation in the defense sector
It is worth noting that some components of Polish weapons are already being supplied and used at the front. Ukrainian companies, particularly Ukrspecsystems, have started producing products in Poland, which may indicate further deepening of cooperation in the defense sector.
Negotiations between Poland and Ukraine regarding military cooperation, including the transfer of MiG-29 aircraft, indicate the activation of defense relations between the countries against the backdrop of the escalating security situation in the region. The modernization of the Polish armed forces may also affect the military balance in Eastern Europe, and joint weapons production opens up new opportunities for cooperation, which is important in the context of modern security challenges.
