Threats Against Top Polish Officials Spark Urgent Security Response
Polish intelligence agencies have received credible reports indicating attempted attacks on Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. In response, security services held an emergency meeting to assess the situation, exploring all leads including a potential Russian connection. This was confirmed by Jacek Dobżyński, spokesperson for the Minister-Coordinator of Special Services, and Karolina Galecka, the Ministry of Interior and Administration's spokesperson.
Minister-Coordinator Tomasz Siemoniak and Interior Minister Marcin Kwiatkowski immediately instructed security forces to take swift action. The urgent coordination meeting involving the Internal Security Agency, police, and State Protection Service began Sunday at 11:00 a.m. Warsaw time, following receipt of the threat information around 7 a.m.
Authorities had earlier detained two individuals: one from Przemyśl who posted threatening videos against Prime Minister Tusk on social media, and another from Oława who also made threats targeting the head of government. Polish law enforcement is actively investigating whether these threats are linked to a broader wave of disinformation and security incidents, possibly orchestrated by Russian agents. Increased security measures have been implemented at schools following multiple attacks, reflecting heightened vigilance nationwide.
Government Response Highlights Security Concerns
Security coordinator Tomasz Siemoniak emphasized that all leads regarding the false alarms and threats are under thorough investigation. He noted that Russia consistently attempts to destabilize Poland by spreading disinformation and inciting unrest.
