Attack on a Ukrainian couple in Wrocław
In Wrocław, three men attacked young Ukrainians. The injured girl sustained a concussion, an ear injury, and a neck cut requiring stitches. The attackers acted because of the victims' Ukrainian accent. A man tried to defend himself with a stun gun but was knocked to the ground. Bystanders did not intervene, and a girl who tried to stop the beating was also hurt. The Polish police detained two suspects.
The government accuses PiS of inciting hatred
The official representative of the Polish government, Adam Szłapka, placed the responsibility for the rise in aggression against Ukrainians on the Law and Justice party (PiS). According to him, Jarosław Kaczyński has attracted radicals into politics, whose rhetoric aligns with that of ultra-right pro-Russian nationalist Grzegorz Braun.
"Such sentiments and a sense of impunity do not arise without reason," emphasized Szłapka.
He also assured that the government will respond harshly to manifestations of violence, xenophobia, and attacks on foreigners. Prime Minister Donald Tusk called on President Karol Nawrocki to publicly condemn the incidents, but, according to Tusk, "so far the response is silence." Szłapka added that "the camp of the 'United Right' has let the genie out of the bottle, and we see the consequences on the streets."
Against the backdrop of these events, on Wednesday, July 29, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will arrive in Lublin for a meeting with Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The discussion is expected to focus on the results of Zelensky's visit to the USA and his negotiations with President Donald Trump. The office of the Polish prime minister confirmed this information.
