Remembering Ihor Mityukov
Ihor Mityukov, the former Vice Prime Minister and Finance Minister of Ukraine, passed away on April 7. He was 74. Mityukov held numerous high-ranking state positions, served as Ambassador to the United Kingdom, and chaired the supervisory board of Ukrposhta, Ukraine's national postal service. Born in Kyiv on September 27, 1952, Mityukov was educated in economic cybernetics at the Faculty of Cybernetics of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. He earned a Candidate of Economic Sciences degree in 1985. From 1975 to 1990, he worked as a postgraduate student and researcher at the Institute of Economics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR.
The Career of Ihor Mityukov
Mityukov's public service career began in 1992 when he was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Board of the 'Ukraina' Agricultural-Industrial Bank. By February 1994, he became Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine, and in September 1994, he was named Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine for Financial and Banking Affairs. From 1995 to 1997, he served as the Ukrainian government's special representative to the European Union in Brussels, followed by his tenure as Minister of Finance from 1997 to 2001.
Following his government roles, Mityukov was Ukraine's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland from 2002 to 2005. In March 2008, he headed the Ukrainian office of the investment bank Morgan Stanley. He also chaired the supervisory board of the National Depository of Ukraine and served as an independent member of the supervisory board of Oschadbank. At the time of his death, he was chairman of the supervisory board of JSC Ukrposhta, a role he held for two years and twenty days, receiving a monthly salary of 165.09 thousand hryvnias.
