Stepan Kubiv has died: what positions the people's deputy held earlier

On May 18, it became known about the death of the people's deputy of Ukraine of several convocations, former head of the National Bank of Ukraine and the first vice prime minister Stepan Kubiv. The politician was 64 years old. The Ukrainian Parliament reported the death.

What is known about Stepan Kubiv's death

The leadership of the parliament, people's deputies, and staff of the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada expressed condolences to the family and friends of the politician.

Later, people's deputy Mykola Knyazhytskyi reported that the cause of Stepan Kubiv's death was a thrombosis.

In the Verkhovna Rada of the IX convocation, Kubiv worked as a member of the Committee on Economic Development.

What positions Stepan Kubiv held

Stepan Kubiv was one of the most well-known Ukrainian politicians and economists of recent decades.

Over the years he:

  • headed the National Bank of Ukraine;
  • was a member of the National Security and Defense Council;
  • served as the first vice prime minister;
  • headed the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.

Kubiv was also elected several times as a people's deputy of Ukraine and was a deputy of the Lviv Regional Council.

Stepan Kubiv's role during the Euromaidan and after 2014

During the Revolution of Dignity, Stepan Kubiv was the commander of the Trade Union House on Maidan Nezalezhnosti in Kyiv.

His name was often associated with economic reforms and crisis decisions in the early years of the war following the onset of Russian aggression in 2014.

In 2024, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia put Kubiv on the wanted list, accusing him of allegedly 'financing the ATO'.

Stepan Kubiv belonged to the generation of Ukrainian politicians who went through the Orange Revolution, the Euromaidan, and the period of the first large-scale reforms after 2014.
