Global Resilience Training Engages Ukrainian Interior Ministry Personnel

More than a thousand employees from Ukraine's Ministry of Internal Affairs took part in a global resilience training event, attended by Inna Yashchuk, the State Secretary of the Ministry. The program featured an online lecture led by American expert Daniel Aldrich, who specializes in social capital and recovery. His presentation focused on the critical role social capital and infrastructure play during times of shocks and crises.

The training brought together staff from the Ministry's central office, representatives from higher education institutions with specialized training environments, and psychological support professionals from the National Police, State Emergency Service, State Border Guard Service, and National Guard of Ukraine. This initiative was coordinated by the Cabinet of Ministers’ Mental Health Coordination Center as part of the nationwide mental health program "You Are Like?", launched by Ukraine's First Lady, Olena Zelenska.

The Crucial Role of Social Connections

The National Institute for Resilience and Security co-organized the event, which was supported by the World Health Organization (WHO). Daniel Aldrich emphasized how vital trust, social bonds, and mutual aid are in overcoming crises—an especially relevant message given current challenges.

This training reflects Ukraine’s ongoing commitment to enhancing mental health and societal resilience amid crisis conditions. The involvement of international experts and backing from WHO highlight Ukraine’s dedication to adopting advanced strategies in psychological care and social stability. The focus on social capital during the sessions underscores its potential as a foundational element for recovery and societal adaptation to ongoing challenges.

In addition to training initiatives, Ukraine has recently launched a comprehensive network of resilience centers aimed at supporting citizens affected by the ongoing war. This strategic move reflects a broader commitment to fostering mental health and community support, essential for navigating the challenges faced during these turbulent times.
