Mandatory Evacuation Ordered for Nikopol District
More than 1,100 people must leave the Nikopol district of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast due to the deteriorating security situation. The mandatory evacuation order targets several communities, with families with children being the top priority. Residents have just one month to relocate.
According to Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, the evacuation applies to residents of the following areas:
- Marhanets community, including the villages of Novokyivka and Illinka;
- Myrove community, specifically the village of Vyshchetarasivka;
- Nikopol city, where evacuations are planned for nearly 100 streets.
A total of 1,145 people are subject to evacuation, including 34 children from 28 families.
The evacuation must be completed within one month, with departure times and routes arranged on a case-by-case basis. Local authorities are providing organizational support, and families can stay in safer settlements within the Nikopol area, other parts of the region, or even in different regions entirely.
“All organizational matters and support will be handled by local authorities,” stated Oleksandr Hanzha.
Housing Compensation and International Aid
Additionally, Nikopol plans to introduce rental compensation for families with children. This initiative is expected to be reviewed by city council deputies at an emergency session.
Meanwhile, the International Committee of the Red Cross has confirmed its readiness to assist with evacuations from Oleshky and nearby settlements in Kherson Oblast, where the humanitarian situation is critical. Over six thousand people in Oleshky and surrounding areas lack access to water, food, medical care, and any means of leaving. Among them are about 200 children, most of whom have limited mobility. The approaches to Oleshky are mined, complicating evacuation efforts.
This evacuation represents a critical step in ensuring the safety of Nikopol district residents, especially families with children, amid an escalating security environment. Given the dire humanitarian crisis in Kherson Oblast, support from international organizations like the Red Cross is essential to meet the needs of those still trapped in high-risk zones. Evacuation and aid operations could prove decisive in improving conditions across the region.
As the evacuation efforts intensify in the Nikopol district, it is important to note that similar humanitarian crises are unfolding elsewhere in Ukraine. For instance, the International Committee of the Red Cross has confirmed its readiness to assist in evacuating thousands from the occupied Kherson region, where the situation remains dire. Understanding these parallel developments can provide deeper insight into the broader challenges faced by residents in affected areas.
