Prosecutors Recover Over UAH 114 Million in Coal Supply Advances for 'Centrenergo'

Правоохоронці повернули понад 114 мільйонів гривень, сплачених за постачання вугілля для 'Центренерго'.

Funds Recovered for the State Budget

Prosecutors from the Prosecutor General's Office have secured the return of more than UAH 114 million to the state budget. This sum had been paid in advance under a coal supply contract for PJSC 'Centrenergo'. An investigation into the potential misappropriation of these public funds has been ongoing since October 17, 2025, under Part 5 of Article 191 of Ukraine's Criminal Code. This case highlights ongoing efforts to scrutinize major state energy contracts.

In 2024, PJSC 'Centrenergo' entered into coal supply contracts totaling over UAH 380 million. One supplier has now returned UAH 114.2 million it received under its agreement. However, advance payments exceeding UAH 260 million made to two other suppliers remain outstanding, raising further questions about the management of state resources.

Power Plant Shutdown Incident

On the night of November 8, 2025, all thermal power plants operated by PJSC 'Centrenergo' in Ukraine were shut down. This incident occurred against the backdrop of the ongoing financial probe into coal supply contracts and advance payments. Law enforcement agencies maintain control of the situation as they continue to examine the details of the agreements and related financial transactions.

"The recovery of this significant sum for the state budget may signal active steps by law enforcement to combat corruption and abuse in public procurement." - Source unknown.

The simultaneous shutdown of 'Centrenergo' power stations underscores the gravity of a situation with potential implications for the country's energy stability. The outcomes of ongoing investigations and audits will be crucial for ensuring transparency in the use of budgetary funds and preventing similar incidents in the future.
