Over 136 thousand square meters of Ukrainian land, including 13.5 thousand square meters of water area, need demining due to the presence of explosive objects. The situation is worst in Kharkiv region.
According to the director of the Department of Mine Action of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, Serhiy Reva, about 23% of the territory of Ukraine is contaminated with explosive objects. Unfortunately, not all contaminated areas can be cleared, only about 30 thousand square kilometers are subject to cleaning.
“The most incidents occurred in the Kharkiv region - 427 incidents: 98 people died, including 4 children, 329 people were injured, including 32 children. This is the most contaminated region. Following are Sumy, Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Donetsk regions,” Reva said.
