The Cultural Project "CINEMA & BOOKS"
A major cultural initiative called "CINEMA & BOOKS – Children's Cinema in Libraries" is being launched in Ukraine. Over the summer, more than 150 libraries across the country will offer free screenings of the children's comedy fantasy "Khreshchatyk 48/2," produced by Komarovskyi Films. Organizers expect that between 5,000 and 10,000 children will get the chance to watch the film as early audiences. The screenings also underscore the expanding role of libraries as cultural hubs for families.
The project is supported by Ukraine's Ministry of Culture, the State Film Agency of Ukraine, Komarovskyi Films, and the production company UpHub. The National Library of Ukraine for Children is partnering to host these special screenings.
About "Khreshchatyk 48/2"
The film made its debut this past May through the National Children's Cinema Tour, which traveled to children's camps and recreation centers. Directed by Dmytro Avdieiev, it tells the story of 11-year-old Yurko and Mia, who stumble upon a gateway to the Other Side of Kyiv—a place that has existed since the year 482. Together with mythical beings, they work to save the world from the ancient Goddess of Death. If all goes well, the organizers plan to turn CINEMA & BOOKS into an annual event.
This project is part of the "eBook 2026" program, which encourages children to develop a love of reading and film.
The CINEMA & BOOKS initiative seeks to bring young people into cultural life and strengthen their interest in books and movies, a priority in today's environment. Free library screenings like these can serve not only as entertainment but also as an educational platform, nurturing imagination and critical thinking in youth.
