In September 2025, Ukrainians again purchased currency more actively than they sold: the difference amounted to $355.99 million. This is the highest figure since the beginning of the year and the fifth consecutive month of increasing demand, as reported by the NBU. This is noted by Business Censor.

How much currency was bought and sold in September 2025

According to the official statistics for September:

  • cash currency worth $1.89 billion was bought, while $1.5 billion was sold;
  • non-cash currency worth $323.26 million was purchased, while $349.97 million was sold.

What is the currency turnover among the population since the beginning of 2025

Overall, since the beginning of 2025, Ukrainians purchased more currency than they sold, by $8.85 billion. For comparison: in August, the net purchase was $355.4 million, in July - $269.9 million, in June - $282.02 million, in May - $248 million, and in April - $189.5 million. Thus, September became the month with the highest net demand for currency in the last one and a half years.

The First Deputy Head of the NBU, Serhiy Nikolaychuk, warned at the beginning of September that the trend of increasing demand could persist. At the same time, he noted that the current volumes are still significantly lower than last year, when net purchases reached about $1 billion per month.

The dynamics of recent years demonstrate a steady increase in the population's demand for foreign currency. If in 2022 the net purchase was only $0.88 billion, then in 2023 this figure rose to $4.79 billion, and in 2024 - already to $12.22 billion. Thus, demand for currency continues to reflect both the economic expectations of citizens and the maintenance of a high level of financial caution.
