Melons in Ukraine have rapidly increased in price this week. This information was released by EastFruit analysts.
According to their data, the price of this sweet crop has risen by an average of 40% compared to the previous week. The main reasons were supply restrictions due to seasonality and stable consumer demand.
Farmers note that in many farms in the southern regions, the harvest of early varieties has already practically finished, while the harvest of late varieties will only begin at the end of August. This is compounded by quality issues caused by unfavorable weather conditions, which further restricts market volumes.
Currently, wholesale batches of melons directly from the field are sold for 26 to 40 hryvnias per kilogram ($0.63–0.97). This is practically three times (on average 2.9 times) more expensive than in mid-August last year. Experts explain this sharp rise in prices primarily due to a reduction in production caused by the negative impact of weather conditions, which significantly affected the harvest.
Watermelon Market
Let us not forget about the prices for watermelons.
Ukrainian melons have sharply risen in price due to limited supply and stable demand. According to experts, this trend is related to the rapid rise in prices for melon crops, which may affect the end consumer and cause certain changes in the market.
