Starting from mid-June, Ukrainians traveling to Poland by bus will have to take into account new restrictions at the border. A large-scale reconstruction is beginning at the 'Shehyni – Medyka' border crossing, making bus departures from Ukraine unavailable for over a year. This was reported by the Lviv customs.
The 'Shehyni – Medyka' border crossing will limit bus traffic
Starting from June 15, 2026, the reconstruction of the bus lane will commence at one of the busiest border crossings on the Ukrainian-Polish border.
Due to the repairs, buses will no longer be able to leave Ukraine for Poland through 'Shehyni – Medyka'. The restrictions will remain in effect until November 2027.
At the same time, the entry of buses from Poland to Ukraine will remain open and will operate unchanged.
Queues at the border may become longer
Due to the closure of the bus route, part of the passenger flow will be redirected to other border crossings, which may lead to increased congestion at the border.
Customs officials advise carriers to change routes in advance and inform passengers about possible delays.
Traditionally, border queues are most affected by the summer season, holiday periods, and weekends. Additional pressure may arise from the redirection of bus services to other crossings.
What alternatives are offered to travelers
Experts recommend checking the border situation in real-time before traveling and choosing alternative routes if possible.
Besides the Polish route, crossings at the borders with Slovakia, Hungary, or Romania can be used to enter EU countries, where congestion may be lower during certain periods.
A flexible route choice will help avoid long waits and reduce the risk of missing international flights.
It is worth noting that Polish workers are among the most loaded in the European Union. In 2025, the average workweek in the country was 38 hours, significantly exceeding the EU average.
