Portugal’s ‘Bandits’ Set to Conquer Eurovision 2026 in Vienna

Португальська команда з унікальними звучаннями готується вразити Євробачення 2026 у Відні.

Eurovision 2026: Key Dates and Competitors

The 70th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest kicks off in Vienna on May 12, 2026. Among the participants, Portuguese group Bandidos do Cante will perform in the first semifinal with their track 'Rosa'. Formed in 2022 in the southern city of Beja, the band consists of five members: Miguel Costa, Duarte Farias, Francisco Raposo, Luís Aleixo, and Francisco Pestana.

Initially known as Amigos do Alentejo, the group rebranded to Bandidos do Cante in 2023. Their debut single, 'Amigos Coloridos', marked the beginning of their musical journey, and in January 2026, they released their first album, 'Bairro das Flores'. Their sound is rooted in canto alentejano, a traditional singing style that UNESCO added to its list of Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2014.

Band Members’ Backgrounds and Musical Style

The members come from diverse backgrounds—including two footballers, a coach, and a businessman. In an interview, the group explained their name: “It really means ‘bandits who sing,’ because we tried to break away from the rules of Portuguese music.”

They also expressed support for Ukraine, saying: “We wish Ukraine success and hope to meet them in the final.”

Describing 'Rosa' as 'calm and emotional,' the band says the song’s harmonies and vocal blend transport listeners to a special place. Their Eurovision 2026 performance is expected to draw music fans’ attention and mark a significant moment for Portuguese culture on the global stage.

Eurovision consistently attracts millions of viewers worldwide, and Bandidos do Cante’s participation could amplify the international profile of Portuguese music. By showcasing unique cultural traditions, such acts help raise awareness of participating countries’ heritage and open new doors for artists on a global scale.
