Europe’s Most Beautiful Beaches Ranked for 2026
Every year, the travel platform European Best Destinations releases a list of the continent’s top beaches, and the 2026 edition is no exception. After evaluating hundreds of spots and factoring in votes from an international panel of travelers—who judged each location on criteria like natural beauty, water quality, accessibility, family-friendliness, authenticity, outdoor activities, environmental protection, beach services, nearby real estate quality, and overall vibe—the winner is Monte Clérigo Beach in Portugal’s Algarve region.
This stretch of coastline along the Costa Vicentina earned top marks for its golden cliffs, rugged Atlantic scenery, and breathtaking sunsets. A special weekly tradition adds to its charm: every Friday evening, locals and tourists alike gather at the oceanfront restaurant O Sargo. Among the notable visitors spotted at Monte Clérigo in spring 2026 were Alexandra Grimaldi, son of Prince Albert II of Monaco, and frequent guest Christian Louboutin.
Other Beaches That Made the Cut
The ranking also recognized nine other standout beaches across Europe. Here’s the full list:
- 2nd place: Voutoumi Beach on Antipaxos Island, Greece
- 3rd place: Fteri Beach on Kefalonia Island, Greece
- Elafonissi Beach (Crete, Greece)
- Bogliasco (Liguria, Italy)
- Cala Mesquida (Mallorca, Spain)
- Kvalvika Beach (Moskenesøy Island, Norway)
- Rovinia Beach (Corfu, Greece)
- Kaputaş Beach (Antalya, Turkey)
- Paleokastritsa Beach (Corfu, Greece)
Earlier this year, European Best Destinations also named Madrid the best European destination to visit in 2026, Nicosia the top cultural destination, and Maribor the 2026 Wine Capital of Europe. These accolades highlight the growing diversity and appeal of travel spots across the continent.
The European Best Destinations ranking underscores how environmental sustainability and service quality are shaping modern tourism. Monte Clérigo’s victory could boost interest in the Algarve region and drive local economic growth through tourism. It also shows how international recognition can influence traveler choices and set new trends for European getaways.
