Kyiv Road Bridge Official Suspected of Causing $2.5 Million Overpayment on South Bridge Project

Влада Києва підозрює чиновника у фінансових зловживаннях на проекті Південного мосту.

Municipal Company Employee Faces Charges

An official from the municipal enterprise KyivAvtoShliakhMist has been formally notified of suspicion for allowing a 2.5 million Ukrainian hryvnia overpayment on emergency repair work at the South Bridge. The employee was responsible for overseeing the project, which ran from December 2024 through August 2025. In this context, the South Bridge is a critical infrastructure link in Kyiv, and such overpayments strain already tight municipal budgets.

While carrying out his duties, the official signed off on completion certificates without verifying that the work had actually been performed. As a result, the municipal company overpaid the contractor by the stated amount of 2.5 million hryvnia. A forensic economic examination confirmed the losses, cementing the basis for the charges.

Legal Consequences and Public Significance

The suspect has been charged under Part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which covers criminal negligence in office. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison. The investigation is ongoing.

This case highlights the urgent need for stricter oversight of public contracts, especially when budgets are limited. Incidents of corruption and negligence can lead to massive financial drains on state resources, sparking public outrage and demanding decisive action from law enforcement.
