The Trip of the U.S. President's Envoys to Moscow

The envoys of U.S. President Donald Trump are planning a trip to Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding a peace agreement to end the war in Ukraine. This meeting is expected to discuss important aspects related to the conflict, but final agreements on the date of the meeting have not yet been reached.

It is known that the envoys include Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. However, the White House clarified that no official meeting is currently scheduled. Currently, the parties have made progress on a 20-point plan to cease hostilities, with about 90% of the provisions already agreed upon.

Main Issues for Discussion

The main issues that remain subjects of disputes are:

  • Russia's demands for the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Donbas;
  • Ukraine's proposal to freeze the front line;
  • NATO troop deployment in Ukraine;
  • The status of occupied territories;
  • Control of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant;
  • The issue of $300 billion in frozen assets of Russia's Central Bank.

Witkoff and Kushner visited Moscow last December, where their negotiations lasted almost five hours.

This planned trip could be an important step in efforts to peacefully resolve the conflict in Ukraine, as negotiations between the U.S. and Russia could influence the further development of events in the region. Given the complexity and sensitivity of the unresolved issues, further negotiations may determine not only the military but also the political situation in Ukraine and relations between the West and Russia.
