Russia’s Ongoing Security Threats
Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that the level of security threats posed by Russia to Kyiv and other cities remains unchanged. For over four years and three months, Russia has been launching missiles and drones at the capital, with attacks occurring nearly every week. This relentless bombardment underscores a constant danger to civilians.
International Community’s Response
During a phone call, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov threatened systematic strikes on targets in Kyiv, claiming these sites are used by Ukraine’s Armed Forces. He framed these attacks as part of Russia’s military strategy. In response, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry commented:
“Against this backdrop, Russia’s new threats are nothing but blatant blackmail. Moscow is effectively admitting that its shelling is aimed, in part, at intimidating foreign diplomats. This admission will serve as valuable evidence in international legal proceedings against the aggressor state.”
Ambassadors from European Union member states have rejected the ultimatums and threats from Russia’s Foreign Ministry, refusing to evacuate from Kyiv. Diplomatic missions continue to operate in Ukraine’s capital despite the risks. Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi highlighted the duration of the attacks, stating:
“Russia has been bombing Kyiv every week for over four years.”
Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed gratitude to foreign diplomatic missions that remain operational during wartime and reject Russian blackmail and intimidation. 'We remind all our partners and allies that the best response to the Kremlin’s threats is to intensify pressure on the aggressor and bolster support for Ukraine, particularly by strengthening air defense capabilities,' the Ministry emphasized.
The situation in Ukraine remains tense, with no improvement in security for residents of Kyiv and other cities due to persistent Russian threats. It is worth noting that the international community continues to stand with Ukraine during this difficult period, a stance that could prove critical in mitigating the impact of Russian aggression and ensuring regional stability.
In light of the ongoing threats from Russia, the commitment of foreign diplomats in Kyiv remains crucial. This steadfastness is echoed in a recent report where EU envoys have firmly rejected Russian demands to evacuate, highlighting their dedication to supporting Ukraine during these turbulent times. Such actions not only reinforce diplomatic ties but also send a strong message against intimidation tactics employed by Moscow.
