Estonia's Political Landscape Ahead of Elections
In an interview with the publication Glavkom, Ukraine's Ambassador to Estonia, Volodymyr Boichko, analyzed the political situation in the country ahead of parliamentary elections scheduled for next year. He also addressed Estonia's trade relations with Russia and its efforts to counter Russian propaganda. Estonia, a NATO and EU member bordering Russia, has been a staunch supporter of Ukraine since the 2022 invasion.
Boichko observed that opposition parties in Estonia openly support Ukraine, with one notable exception: the conservative EKRE party, which holds approximately 10-11% support. This party, he noted, promotes slogans such as:
- "National interests come first"
- "We must open the border with Russia for trade"
However, the ambassador emphasized that EKRE lacks broad support and is unlikely to form a parliamentary majority.
Halting Trade and Combating Disinformation
Volodymyr Boichko also commented on trade relations between Russia and Estonia, stating they are effectively non-existent. Estonia has ceased direct purchases of Russian energy carriers and halted all imports from Russia. He stressed that:

Nevertheless, questions remain regarding the transit of non-sanctioned goods through Estonian territory to Russia.
Furthermore, Estonia has suspended operations at three border crossing points with Russia during nighttime hours, a measure the ambassador says reduces the flow of goods.
