Guarantees for Service Members After Release from Captivity

Ukrainian service members who return from enemy captivity are entitled to a range of state benefits and payments designed to support them during this challenging transition. These measures are a crucial part of Ukraine's commitment to its defenders. The core financial support includes a one-time payment of 100,000 hryvnias, as well as an annual assistance payment of the same amount.

In addition, returning personnel are entitled to:

  • Monetary compensation for the entire period spent in captivity;
  • Medical treatment;
  • Psychological and legal assistance.

Upon their return, they are automatically granted combat veteran status, which provides broader social protections. They are also entitled to an additional 90 days of leave, and if they wish, they can request discharge from military service.

Social Reintegration for Former Prisoners of War

These comprehensive measures form part of the state's policy to support service members who have endured the harsh conditions of captivity. This support framework aims not only to provide material security but also to facilitate the social reintegration of former military personnel, a vital element in their recovery process after combat. Providing these guarantees underscores the state's obligation to those who risked their lives for the nation's defense.
