Wooden Hotel Fire in Zakarpattia: 42 Firefighters Battle Blaze at Resort

Гасіння великої пожежі в дерев'яному готелі Закарпаття: 42 рятувальники ліквідовують вогонь на курорті.

Fire in Izky

A fire broke out at a wooden hotel complex within a resort in the village of Izky, located in the Khust district of the Zakarpattia region. The alarm was raised on April 30 at 4:19 PM. In response, 42 firefighters and nine units of specialized equipment from the 3rd State Fire and Rescue Unit were quickly dispatched to the scene.

Challenges Hindering Firefighting Efforts

Several factors are complicating the containment of the blaze:

  • The site lacks a firefighting water supply system, making it difficult for crews to operate effectively.
  • The hotel complex is built with wooden structures, which significantly increases the fire load.
  • Strong winds are causing the fire to spread rapidly, further hindering control of the situation.

Information about any casualties is still being confirmed.

The resort in Izky lies near the Borzhava mountain range and features a hotel complex with a capacity of over 280 guests. The building consists of multiple sections, and the grounds include restaurants, a bathhouse, a fishing pond, and two ski lifts. This incident is not an isolated one—back in January 2025, a fire at the Dragobrat resort forced the evacuation of 20 tourists. Additionally, in November 2025, a blaze struck the Premium Club SPA hotel in Bukovel, leading to the evacuation of around 70 people.

These fires at Zakarpattia resorts highlight the critical need for robust fire safety measures, especially in facilities with wooden construction and high occupancy. In the case of Izky, the absence of a water supply for firefighting could result in severe damage unless urgent steps are taken to improve safety protocols. Given recent events, local authorities should consider enhancing fire safety standards at resorts to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

The recent fire incidents in Zakarpattia raise significant concerns about fire safety standards in the region. Similar to the devastating grass fires that resulted in tragic losses, the blaze at the Izky resort underscores the urgent need for improved safety measures, particularly for facilities that rely heavily on wooden structures. Without immediate action, the risk of further disasters remains high.
