Fire Breaks Out in Boryspil
A fire erupted on March 15 at an 'Epicenter' construction superstore in Boryspil, leading to the evacuation of 100 people. The emergency services hotline 101 received the call at approximately 11:10 AM. Firefighters successfully contained the blaze by 11:56 AM, demonstrating a swift and effective response. 'Epicenter' is a major chain of home improvement and construction hypermarkets across Ukraine.
According to reports, the fire started on an open-air storage area, where construction materials on racks adjacent to the main building caught fire. Smoke spread into the building during the incident, which could have complicated evacuation efforts. A total of 30 personnel from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) with eight specialized vehicles were deployed to the scene.
Major Blaze Reported Elsewhere in the Region
The cause of the Boryspil fire is currently under investigation. Notably, on the same day, a separate large-scale fire was also reported on the left bank of the Dnipro River in the Vyshhorod district of the Kyiv region. These simultaneous incidents have raised public concerns about regional fire safety standards and preparedness.
The occurrence of two significant fires in the Kyiv region on a single day underscores urgent questions about safety protocols and emergency service readiness. Officials noted that the rapid action of firefighters in Boryspil prevented potential injuries among those inside the store. Incidents like this may prompt a review of safety measures in retail establishments and their outdoor storage areas to prevent future occurrences.
