Fire in a residential building in Tokyo
Six people were hospitalized with minor injuries in Tokyo after a fire in a residential building, which was likely caused by the explosion of a portable charging device (power bank). The incident occurred on September 25 around 1:50 AM local time in the Suginama area. Emergency services received reports of the fire from a resident of the five-story building, who indicated that a mobile battery was the cause of the blaze.
According to the metropolitan police and Tokyo fire service, approximately 20 square meters of a room on the second floor burned, which is considered the fire's epicenter. Eight individuals aged between 10 and 60, including a girl living in the apartment, suffered from discomfort due to smoke inhalation. Six of them were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
A resident of the room where the fire likely started recounted: 'I was sleeping when the portable battery was plugged into my smartphone for charging. Suddenly, I heard a bang and saw the battery catch fire.'
The Tokyo police and fire service are currently investigating the circumstances of the incident, checking the theory that the fire started from the mobile battery. It is worth noting that in Bangkok, a significant portion of the roadway collapsed in the historic center near the Vajira Teaching Hospital on Samsen Road.
As a result of the fire in the residential building in Tokyo, six people sustained minor injuries and were hospitalized, and the likely cause of the blaze was the explosion of a portable charging device. The police are conducting an investigation to clarify all the details of this incident.
